Columbia Center Welcome to the big kahuna of the Seattle skyline, the state of Washington, as well as the Pacific Northwest region. At 968 feet, the Columbia Center is also the 2nd tallest building on the West Coast of the United States only falling short to the U.S. Bank Tower in Los Angeles, California. Completed in 1985, the original construction plans called for the Columbia Center to stand at 1,005 feet tall. The FAA became involved with the concern of Sea-Tac airport being close by and the demotion to its height was made. There is an observation deck with views of the skyline and the Puget Sound (that I have never gone up to) and every year they do a "Big Climb For Leukemia" event where people actually climb the full stairway of the skyscraper with proceeds going to leukemia research. Originally built as the Columbia Center, its name changed to the Columbia Seafirst Center and then the Bank of America Tower (which several people still refer to it as) before reverting back to it original name. This is in color (I know it looks very monochrome) but if you look closely you will see the lights in the windows are a faint yellow hue. The sky also has some traces of blue in it as well. What can you say? It was a very gray Seattle day. Enjoy! Center for Korean Studies building Center for Korean Studies, University of Hawaii at Mnoa, Honolulu. A sign near the building describes this beautiful building [in part]: The Center for Korean Studies is located at 1881 East-West Road on the Manoa campus in a building designed and constructed especially for its use. The building was completed in December 1979 and formally dedicated in March 1, 1980. The Center for Korean Studies building was designed by two Korean architects, Chong In-guk and Na-Sang-gi, with modifications and final blueprints by two Hawaii architects familiar with local building requirements, Jo Paul Rognstad and Vernon Kim. The design was inspired by the buildings of Kyongbok Palace in Seoul. The original Kyongbok Palace was built in 1392 following the accession of the founding king of the Yi dynasty, Yi Song-gye (T'aejo). While photographing this building, I noticed an interesting Rainbow Shower tree nearby (upper-left in photo). This tree had both golden yellow and peachy-pink flowers blooming from separate branches. I've never seen this occur on any other shower tree. Le Bambole Mk. II, "The Compact" Pinhole Camera. Kodak Extar 100. Exposure: f/256 and 5 seconds.
